“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work and take care of it.” Genesis 2:15

A Sabbath Rest

The Christian Party recognises that there are very simple God-given ways
to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. For example, the
observance of a weekly Sabbath day of rest would create a huge reduction
of carbon emissions.

The Christian Party shall promote, but not impose, Sunday as a day of rest.
Calling for the restoration of Sunday as a day of rest will not only reduce
carbon emissions; but it will also allow reflection by individuals and communities
on the role they have to play in society. A re-ordering of values is needed that
prioritizes a sustainable work/life balance. Such a re-balance will not only
benefit the environment; but it will also benefit each individual.

Planting Trees to Combat CO2 Emissions

The planting of trees would provide a natural mechanism for extracting
excess CO2 from the atmosphere. As natural consumers of CO2 trees render
unnecessary high technology solutions for reducing the levels of CO2. The
Christian Party will promote the planting of trees throughout the
United Kingdom and the world and oppose the destruction of
the world’s forests. We understand that considerable finance will
need to be provided by the rich nations to plant trees extensively on
some of the world’s poorest land, but this is cheaper than many other
proposals and is in line with our duty to be good stewards of God’s creation,
besides being a natural solution. Furthermore, the planting of large forests helps
to promote better and more regular patterns of rainfall, which in turn benefits
agricultural output and thus people.

Supporting Biodiversity

The alarming disappearance of as many as a dozen species of bee indigenous
to the United Kingdom has presented a wake up call regarding the importance of
supporting biodiversity in our nation. The reckless eradication of flora and fauna,
and in particular insect loss through the use of pesticides, has had a knock on
effect of which the decimation of our bee population is just one example. The
Christian Party is committed to supporting, protecting and enhancing biodiversity
in Britain as vital to the nation’s wellbeing, not only now but for future generations.

The Christian Party will seek massive punitive damages for industrial polluters
and will ring-fence such monies for the promotion of natural woodland, fens and
re-population of endangered indigenous species.

Managing our Water

Falling water tables are a major problem in some places such as India and
China and raise the threat of starvation for many. Even in Britain falling water
tables are becoming a problem, particularly in the South East of England.
Concepts or urban and rural drainage were pioneered in Britain in the
19th century and were designed to get water off the land, into rivers
and then into the sea as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, some
nations have followed our lead and have as a result put much of
their agriculture and people at risk. In the 21st century Britain could once
again lead international thinking to encourage holding water on the land, in
ponds etc., for much longer to replenish water tables proactively. We must
adjust our thinking to regard rain as a precious resource that God has given
us.

The robust network of drainage pipes and drainage ditches that run
throughout the country have had the unplanned consequence of
preventing water from naturally draining through the soil and
replenishing the underground water tables that irrigate our pastures
and support our natural ecosystem.

The Christian Party recognises that whilst Britain’s water management
system has brought many benefits, especially in terms of sanitation,
in light of the current levels of our water tables there is an urgent need
for a review of our water management. The Christian Party will support
practical measures to replenish the nation’s underground water tables.
