Highland feedback
31 May 2011
Dr Donald Boyd, the leader of the Scottish Christian Party, wishes to thank all 3,541 voters in the Highlands and Islands who had the Christian concern to vote for the Scottish Christian Party on the Regional List, and the 646 voters who voted likewise in the Inverness and Nairn constituency.
He wishes also to remember with grateful thanks the multitude of helpers who went the extra mile in the campaign to promote the Lordship of Christ and to establish a Christian Voice in the political arena. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as you know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” 1Cor 15:58. May God bless you.
An analysis of the Scottish Election result is available on the main SCP website here.
Brother Andrew campaign
It appears that our Brother Andrew campaign did not work and that our previous voters were unable to secure one new voter each. Indeed we did not even need so many votes to win an MSP this time round.
In 2007 the Lord gave us 6,332 votes. We needed 4,332 more votes to beat the SNP for the 7th Regional seat and an MSP in Holyrood. In other words, we needed 10,664 votes in total. We had calculated that we might need more than this in 2011 and so we aimed at 12,000 votes.
However, in the event in 2011, a total of 9454 votes would have secured the 7th Regional seat and an MSP in Holyrood. In other words, the Brother Andrew campaign could have been even easier. If our 6,332 voters had paired up and found one more voter per pair = 3166, we would have got 9498 votes which would have got you a Christian Voice in Holyrood.
It was not to be. Although the Highlands and Islands Election leaflet was available for download from the website, we did not have the funds to send 244,600 leaflets to all the homes in the Region. This may explain why the Regional vote was not as strong in the Islands as before. It is disappointing that the Christian Labour candidate did not win through in the Western Isles, although we had hoped that our not standing in the Western Isles constituency would have given him an opportunity to garner the Christian vote. This did not happen and we will consider standing a candidate in future.
However, we continue to be at the head of the minor parties in the Highlands and Islands, poised to make a break-through in the Lord’s time. Although the H&I vote is down, our core vote in Scotland has held up which suggests an increase nationally to compensate for local downturns, for which we are thankful. The task of making contact with these voters continues.
Growing the Party
These 16,466 votes represent our core vote in Scotland, but we have not yet made tangible contact with these voters except at the ballot box. If you know who they are, or you have not made contact with us, please get in touch.
